This year the BMC want to remove mountains of waste from the places we love

There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. If no action is taken, this figure will treble within the next ten years. 80% of litter in the seas comes from inland. Plastic bottles, crisp packets, cigarette packs and cans will end up in our oceans unless we do something about it.

We want everyone across the country to get out and get involved. Here's how you can help:

If you or your organisation have already arranged a litter pick and would like us to add it to our event calendar, please drop details in an email to

If you’re keen to take the initiative and organise your own event, the BMC can help.

Whether you simply take a bin bag with you next time you go to your local crag or wish to organise a clean-up of the entire Pennine Way with your friends, local club or family, we can help. We will provide hand-held litter pickers, reusable and biodegradable bin bags as well as all the information you need to get started in our resource pack.

There are already a number of worthwhile clean-up events happening across the country. You can find more details here:

These are not all BMC-organised events and therefore the BMC’s members, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives and/or volunteers are not responsible for the organisation of this event nor for any injury, loss or damage of any kind sustained by any person while participating in any litter picking event attended.

H20 is a campaign by the British Mountaineering Council (BMC). Find out more about the BMC at

Due to increased demand we have decided to take a break from Hills 2 Oceans and rethink the future of the Project. Please come back in September to order your equipment.
